DeFreneFest18, SE26’s very own festival!
Saturday 18th August saw #DeFreneFest18 once again rocking SE26. Still young after debuting in 2016, this year’s event built on what’s been good and made it even better. More than 400 people came through the door and just over £3,600 was taken.
The Green Tomatoes Stage line up was once again packed full of local talent. Folk band Paper Fish co-headlined the event and got the crowd singing along. They were followed by Bouncer, a covers band of the highest quality who saw out the festival in a fitting fashion. Also included in this year’s line-up were covers and original songs from Sam Bleazerd. Rock came in the dazzling form of Jed Dmochowski and local soloist Jess got us going with her soulful tunes.
Crafts, Food, Talks & Demos… and Shopping!
Festival fashion came in the form of nature crowns created in our Wood Craft Folk workshop, where you could also make gorgeous kites. Mandala stone had everyone channelling their arty side. Face Painting was taken to another level this year with “Real Unicorn” horns available, while Twistnshout were balloon modelling up some creepy creations. A huge piece of Land Art was created during the festival. There was also a sensory area, glass painting and more! Our talks and demos had people meeting chickens, learning about seed saving, finding out all about bees, flower arranging, conservation and mental health. There were stalls that included our very own honey and plants, a blacksmith, teas from around the world (Wise Owl Tea) go to website and much more. The food we had on offer included wood-fired pizza, BBQ and homemade cakes.
One of the highlights of the Green Tomatoes Stage this year has to be the Brockley Ukuleles performance. There was standing room only by the end of a set that included every kind of “mash-up” you could imagine and had young and old alike smiling, laughing and singing along.
