WHAT IS MINDFULNESS TRAINING AND, WHAT CAN THE CLASSES DO FOR ME?
Mindfulness involves learning to pay attention and to wisely work with our thoughts, bodily sensations, and emotions. The practice is learned through simple meditation exercises, through which you eventually come to bring a richer awareness and presence into your daily life. This reduces ruminating thoughts, helping to prevent stress, anxiety and relapse of depression.
The Mindfulness class is modelled after the evidence-based practices of Jon Kabat Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stressed Reduction (MBSR), and Zindel Segal and colleagues’ Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). The workshop consists of education, discussion, practice of mindfulness meditation, light stretching exercises and homework assignments.
OVER THE EIGHT WEEKS OF THE PROGRAMME THE PRACTICE HELPS YOU TO:
– Become familiar with the workings of the mind
– Notice when you are getting caught in habits of mind that reactivate downwards
– moods of stress
– Explore choosing different way of being
– Put you in touch with different ways of knowing yourself and the world
– Be kinder to yourself
– Learn to accept yourself as you are
