Our Spring Fair 2018: basking in glorious weather!
On Saturday the 5th of May we held our Spring Fair 2018 at the Wynell Road site. The weather was gorgeous, which led to over 500 people coming through the door and more than £3000 pounds raised.
The event kicked off with live saxophone music from May Contain Nuts on the veranda, followed by local band the Crooks. Both groups helping to create the laid back, fun atmosphere our events are now famous for.
The paths through the woodland and meadow were well trod, where the Art and Craft group were selling homemade jams, cards and biscuits, and the nearly new stall and tombola were in full voice. All proved very popular. Here people also found Sow & Grows (our project for people with dementia) very own stall stacked full of crafty creations and cakes. The stall had the appearance of a royal high tea! Many people also ventured down into the lower meadow where massage was on offer and well received!
The greenhouse was bursting with plants from the gardening groups, in the now hotly contested plant sale (arrive early next year to get the best plants). This year had all kinds of vegetable seedlings and sedums available to buy, along with some beautiful willow and other craft creations.
Cakes, pancakes, pizzas and hot dogs fresh from the barbeque and earth oven fed the crowds. At times there were long queues at both stands, the smell was enticing and drew people down to the walled garden area where they were being served.
Karen from Dinky Dot Discovery hosted sensory activities for children, and ran an exciting children’s book stall.
Our activities stand ran Tie Dye and Shibori bag making sessions which also managed to draw punters from all generations, along with a plant a seed activity. And back by popular demand our only canine volunteer: Micky the therapy dog, managed to raise nearly £40 in his “Cash for Cuddles” initiative, held this year in an African themed den.
We want to thank everyone who attended the Spring Fair 2018 helping make the event a huge success.
If you would like to attend more of our events, our Summer Festival will be held on the 18th August at our De Frene site. We hope to make this event even better!
