Due to the Covid pandemic, our last annual Spring Fair was back in 2019. We were really pleased that the end of May 2023 saw the Fair’s successful return here at the Resource Centre.
We were very fortunate on the day with warm, sunny weather and welcoming over 500 visitors to the gardens and nature reserve. This was certainly up on pre-Covid numbers. Visitors spent very generously on the various Sydenham Garden stalls including a plant sale; art & craft items; tasty homemade cakes; T-shirts etc and a craft activity for families in the greenhouse. Thanks to everyone’s generosity the fair raised over £3000 which will go towards helping us continue our work helping local people who attend our projects.
The fair was so popular we unfortunately ran out of food, cake, and plants early in the afternoon. Apologies to all those visitors who were unable to buy plants or enjoy some food or cake. Next year we promise we’ll be better prepared.
A huge thank you to the Perry Vale Assembly who partnered with us in putting on the Fair, as part of the Meeting Up Project, and to Lewisham Council for its generous funding, which meant we were able to promote the event more widely across the whole of the Perry Vale Ward. Not only were local residents able to come and talk to their councillors and assembly team, they could also meet with several local organisations including:
- The Sydenham Society
- Friends of Mayow Park
- Positive Ageing
- Rockbourne Youth Club
- Stanstead Lodge
- Community Connections
- Carer’s Lewisham
- Young Lewisham Project
Thanks also goes to the team of Sydenham Garden volunteers who worked tirelessly setting up the event, running stalls and facilitating activities. Without their help and support we wouldn’t be able to put on such events.
Our next fundraising event is the De Frene Summer Festival on 19 August 2023, we hope to see you there. Watch out for more information on our website shortly.
