David writes: “On Saturday 18th we held our 3rd annual Summer festival at our De Frene road site. What a day! Bands played a wonderful range of music, local stallholders and crafts people selling their wares and a host of activities for children and adults. Of course we had plenty to eat and drink including ethically sourced BBQ, wood fired pizza and an incredible choice of homemade cake.
Everyone seemed to have a great time, and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces but there was also a more serious aim to the day.
The festival provides vital income helping us continue to offer a welcoming and compassionate sanctuary to those living with mental ill health. It also gives co-workers who want it an opportunity to challenge themselves in a pressured environment.
For example, the food stall served over 300 people in less than 4 hours, and we were “staffed” almost entirely by our co-workers. I don’t know about you, but only a few years ago the thought of serving that many people with very basic facilities would fill me with dread, and yet our team did it with such ease that we even managed to fit in a bit of impromptu singing (apologies to anyone who heard me having a go!).
It was a lovely day all round, but for me, this was the highlight of the day – seeing just how much people can develop and thrive when given the right support, encouragement and respect!
A huge thank you to everybody who was involved! I hope to see you all again next festival!”
