The Summer Festival, SE26’s very own smash hit!
On Saturday 19th August our De Frene summer festival once again rocked SE26. Fresh from its debut year in 2016, this year’s event was even bigger and better. More than 500 people came through the door and just over £3,400 was raised taken.
The Main Stage line up was once again jam packed full of local talent. Folk band Paper Fish opened the event, followed by covers and original songs from soloist Sam Bleazerd. Rock came in the form of Jed Dmochowski and returning band Ukadelix played the polytunnel out, ending the event with funky tunes which left everyone on a high.
Festival fashion came in the form of nature crowns created in our wild explorer workshop. Plant printing had everyone channelling their arty side and our friends at Olive Flower Farm ran a posy tying session. Our workshops had people spinning both pizzas and hula hoops; in both cases, some people were more successful than others!
Other highlights included homemade apple crisps (we’ve already had someone back in the office looking for more!), face painting, den making and excellent spoken word, poetry and acoustic music sets from our Acoustic Stage. And of course not forgetting Kevin, complete with Queen Bee costume, who introduced the Sydenham Garden bees to the masses talking everyone through the life cycle of a honey bee and how they work together in our hives.
Thank you and coming soon
We want to thank everybody who came and helped to make the festival such a success. 2017 is Sydenham Garden’s 15th year as a charity and we have even more exciting fundraising events coming up over the next few months. Make sure that you don’t miss out on our green spaces walk, pond fundraising campaign and 15-year anniversary raffle. Our annual Winter Fair will also be held on the 25th November at the Wynell Road site. All money raised from our events goes back into the charity which helps to support local people recovering from mental and physical ill health.
