On Saturday 17th September Sydenham Garden joins with organisations across London in celebrating the Urban Harvest Feast. We are looking forward to a right old “Feastival”!
De Frene has come far in these past 2 years, from a derelict waste land to a flourishing market garden. Local people have made all this possible through hard work and dedication. Each stage of the progress has been achieved and delivered by the hands of volunteers. Literally 1000’s of different people have donated their muscle power to the cause, and furthermore, their finances.
The Urban Harvest Feast gives us all another opportunity to contribute. Our day will begin with Community Volunteering. People from all walks of life come together helping to develop infrastructure with planting, clearing and building tasks. This is always a lot of fun, whatever the weather! Almost all the tasks are accessible no matter your age or ability, and you will experience a tremendous sense of achievement when finished.
After a morning volunteering what more could you want than a hearty and tasty lunch?! As part of our fundraising efforts we will be serving a pizza buffet lunch! Many of the amazing ingredients will have been grown in our gardens, and we promise you will not be left wanting. This lunch forms part of our fundraising efforts. All proceeds will go towards the running of De Frene and the Growing Lives project, and therefore towards peoples recovery from mental ill health. You can find out more about the project by clicking here.
Volunteers for the morning can simply turn up at 10.30am. Children are welcome. However, if you plan on enjoying a site tour and mouth-watering lunch, then please book by clicking here.. The lunch is a fundraiser and we are asking people who enjoy it to donate money towards the Growing Lives Project. The suggested donation is £5.50. Site tours will begin at 1.30pm.
