Chair of Trustees
Sydenham Garden wishes to appoint a Chair of Trustees to replace its founder as he steps down after a long period in post and as a new 3-year Plan is being developed.
Sydenham Garden is a unique wellbeing centre utilising its gardens, nature reserve and activity rooms to help people in their recovery from mental and physical ill-health in Lewisham. Its Adult Mental Health projects focus on gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, together with opportunities to achieve recognised qualifications. In addition, its Dementia programme also utilises Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. Over 80 regular volunteers help to deliver its programmes. Founded in 2002, it now has two sites with meeting centres and greenhouses to complement the gardens, orchards and woodland. A variety of funders, including the National Lottery, have enabled it to grow its services and it now wishes to further embrace the many opportunities as well as challenges common in the charitable sector. Further details may be found online at sydenhamgarden.org.uk .
The Chair’s key responsibility is to understand and fully implement the ethos and values of Sydenham Garden and its work in promoting the recovery journey of its co-workers. They will have a strategic role to play in representing this vision and purpose and in addition work to ensure the reputation of the charity is enhanced. The Chair ensures that the Board of Trustees functions properly, that there is full participation at meetings, all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out.
