The Garden Project Lead will become an integral part of our team. We aim to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment and the role will be vital in ensuring the quality and success of our projects for co-workers recovery and wellbeing.
Background
Sydenham Garden provides group-based Garden activities for co-workers (our beneficiaries) who are referred from a variety of sources and attend a weekly half-day session for 12 months. Groups are open with new members joining and leaving throughout the year. The project lead is assisted by a small number of volunteers in each session. These sessions are based at the Wynell Road Resource Centre.
Co-workers are helped to explore a range of Garden activities during their time in the group. These have included potting, seed sowing, conservation, and much more. They also include garden crafts such as weaving and wood etching. Sharing the activity allows an exchange of skills and mutual encouragement which promote the increased confidence essential to the recovery process. Some plants and crafts specifically produced to be sold to the public at the charity’s fairs and summer festival and this provides an outward facing purpose and the sense of ownership which can also aid recovery.
The current post holder is taking maternity leave and this post is to cover that leave. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver sessions on Monday afternoon, all day Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Office time is flexible.
