The deadline for applications has passed
An exciting opportunity to become Sydenham Garden’s Art & Craft Project lead has arisen!
The Art & Craft Project Lead will become an integral part of our team. We aim to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment and the role will be vital in ensuring the quality and success of our projects for co-workers recovery and wellbeing.
Sydenham Garden provides group-based Art and Craft activities for co-workers (our beneficiaries) who are referred from a variety of sources and attend a weekly half-day session for 12 months. Groups are open with new members joining and leaving throughout the year. The project lead is assisted by a small number of volunteers in each session. These sessions are based at the Wynell Road Resource Centre.
Co-workers are helped to explore a range of art and craft activities during their time in the group. These have included painting, collage, batik, mosaic work, paper making, felt making, willow work, monoprinting and associated printing techniques and papier mache. The activities are undertaken by all members of the group and a particular project (eg a mosaic piece or a papier mache bowl) may be developed over several weeks. Sharing the activity allows an exchange of skills and mutual encouragement which promote the increased confidence essential to the recovery process. Some work is specifically made to be sold to the public at the charity’s fairs and summer festival and this provides an outward facing purpose and the sense of ownership which can also aid recovery.
The current post will allow the expansion of Art and Craft provision to include some shorter weekend courses based at our new hub building on the de Frene site. These sessions will target those who are unable to attend on weekdays.
