Students will deepen their knowledge and understanding of plants, soil, and organic gardening techniques. The course is assessed by Sydenham Garden’s facilitators, who will observe students carrying out practical gardening projects and encourage discussion and skill-sharing in-session. Support with any written aspects of the course content will be provided.
The course will be taught through a mix of classroom-based learning and practical, hands-on activities, at Sydenham Garden’s resource centre, nature reserve and market garden. Students will learn in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. They will help to maintain our kitchen garden, greenhouse, wildlife pond, nature reserve, and market garden whilst taking an active role in building new structures for crops, soil health, and biodiversity
The course will cover: Crop Production and Maintenance, Propagation, Gardening for Wildlife, Understanding Soil Care, and Weeds, Pests, and Diseases.
Students will need to attend one 2.5 hour session each Thursday over the 10 month course.
