When you’re struggling with your mental health, you can feel disconnected from yourself, from other people, from any sense of hope or purpose. At Sydenham Garden, we know that small moments of connection – getting your hands in the soil, sharing a cup of tea, watching something you’ve planted begin to grow, can be the first steps back to feeling like yourself again.
This Winter, our generous supporters have pledged £2,000 in match funding. If we can raise the same amount by 10th December, every pound you give will be doubled, making twice the difference.
Katie’s story
“Leaving hospital is hard. Really hard. It can feel like you’re leaving with nothing more than a bag of medication and barely able to look after yourself. The world seems enormous, empty and scary. How do you even begin to rebuild your life?
For quite a lot of my time at Sydenham Garden I was rather unwell. Sometimes I was barely holding on. Through all of this Sydenham Garden was a lifesaver. I mean that completely literally.
It was a rare glimpse of purpose, fun and sparks of enjoyment that were few and far between – one of very few spaces I felt some respite and safety. No matter how horrible things were, how scary and overwhelming the illness could be, Sydenham Garden was simply amazing.”
Katie’s experience reminds us why this work matters. For someone in crisis, the Garden isn’t just a place – it’s a lifeline. A space where darkness lifts, even if only for a few hours. Where growth is possible again.
